About Anthology

A podcast featuring a man in his 30s talking to himself about a 60 year old science fiction TV show!

Podcast host Matt Hurt (Obsessive Viewer Podcasts) loves science fiction. Yet, he has never seen The Twilight Zone. Anthology is his attempt to rectify that and broaden his sci-fi horizons. Join him as each week, Matt shares his first impressions, analysis, and overall thoughts on episodes of Rod Serling’s iconic series in chronological order. He also pairs each review with a non-spoiler review of an episode of Science Fiction Theatre, a sci-fi anthology series hosted by Truman Bradley from 1955.

In bonus episode series, Matt covers each episode of modern sci-fi anthology series such as Black Mirror, Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, Hulu’s Dimension 404, and (of course) CBS All-Access’ modern revival of The Twilight Zone produced and hosted by Jordan Peele.

Proudly presented by ObsessiveViewer.com.

About the Host

My name is Matt Hurt. I run ObsessiveViewer.com and host/produce The Obsessive Viewer Podcast. “Anthology” is my side project podcast. I started it as an excuse to watch all of The Twilight Zone.

  1. Matt, I just started listing and you’re doing a fantastic job! I happen to be old enough to have viewed the original TZ when it premiered in 1959. Trust me, it was often VERY scary at the time to a 9 year old. And though I knew nothing of Serling’s intent at the time, as an adult I have come to appreciate his skill at making the episodes socially relevant. Your approach is at times very humorous (like when you can’t pronounce the actors names!) but always enlightening. While Tom Elliot’s Twilight Zone Podcast remains the touchstone, and Twilight Pwn is/was definitely another take on the approach to appreciating the TZ, your’s is truly insightful. I assume your obsession with movies and TV accounts for that. You have noticed things and come up with connections that none of the others (nor I) have. I’m teaching a course this Fall (Twilight Zone: Tropes & Tales) at College of Dupage (Illinois) and will be using some of your commentary (w/attribution) for the class. Thnx again. BTW…did you get the blu ray set yet? It is fantastic and worth it for a TZ enthusiast. Mike Lynn

    1. Hey Mike,

Thank you so much for the kind words! It’s incredibly cool (and flattering) that you are going to use some of my work in the course you’re teaching! That is very awesome (and I think you’ll enjoy how I attempt to pronounce Dupage in the next ep I’m going to record).

I think I mentioned it at some point in the podcast, but I remember briefly stumbling upon one of the TZ marathons when I was a kid. I really wish I could go back and tell myself to watch as much of it as I could. Even though I like having the podcast as a way to track my experience watching the show for the first time, I really wish I had grown up watching it.

And to answer your question, I haven’t pulled the trigger on getting the blu-ray set yet. I do have one of the DVD box sets that includes the 80s series too. I really like it and it has a ton of features.

Thanks again for listening and for reaching out! I’m glad you’re liking the show and best of luck with the course you’re teaching.

      Matt

  2. Matt, just following up because I haven’t been getting any notices of new Twilight Zone related podcasts. Have you stopped?

    1. Hey Michael! Thanks for commenting. I haven’t given up on the podcast. I’ve just been busy with a lot of stuff this whole year, really. I’m hoping to resume/relaunch the podcast around Jan 1st, though! So stay tuned. Obviously with the new Twilight Zone series coming out next year, I kind of have my work cut out for me.
